Beauty blogger Zoe Newlove reviews three cleansing balms from Clinique, Antipodes and Darphin

There
is no better feeling than a freshly cleansed face. As ridiculous as it
may sound, but I genuinely look forward to my bathroom routine, settling
on down next to the sink with all of my products, readily prepared to
remove the day from my skin. It is one of the ways I like to wind down,
and it tells my mind to start shutting down as bedtime will not be too
far away.

I always use a cleansing balm as my “second step” and right now I have three different ones on rotation. I begin by using a micellar water, and then scoop up a dab of cleansing balm and massage it into my skin, knowing the remainder of my make-up, invisible to the naked eye, will be magically broken down and washed away with a hot flannel.
I am on my second tub of Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm. I finally get why Caroline Hirons loves it so much. It literally melts into the skin and feels absolutely wonderful. Plus, who doesn’t love purple packaging? Purple is my favourite colour.
You all should know by now how much I love Antipodes, and their Grapeseed Butter Cleanser* is just yummy. You can read a full review here. I love this one particularly because I know it is completely 100% natural and organic and, again, the packaging is just awesome.
Last but not least, Darphin Aromatic Cleansing Balm with Rosewood*. Now, at first me and this balm did not get on, I think I was obviously in a bad mood the time I tried to use this, as when I decided to give it a second chance I was completely oblivious as to where I saw fault. Much heavier than the other two cleansing balms, but in a more luxurious way. I use this when I want to indulge in a more spa like cleanse, as it is packed with a tonne of essential oils and just smells dreamy.
What cleansing balm would you recommend? Have you joined the club?

  • I love cleansing balms & my favourites are the Emma Hardie one with the ridiculously long name & Elemis Pro Collagen Cleansing Balm. My current favourite cleanser, although not a balm, is Aurelia Miracle Cleanser xx

  • I’ve heard such amazing things about the clinique cleansing balm although I’m very loyal to my Emma Hardie moringa cleansing balm at the moment. Great choices and thanks for the recommendations. xx

  • I’ve never tried any of these. I remember trying to get my hands on the Clinique balm, but at the time it was sold out everywhere! I really like the Emma Hardie cleansing balm. It’s lush!

I thought exactly the same thing earlier tonight when I’d just cleansed, my skin felt amazing and I just wanted to stroke it! I love oil cleansers but haven’t really been a huge fan of balm cleansers so far. I love the balance Me Cleanse & smooth face balm, which I guess is a little more of a liquid balm, but I tried one from Lush, can’t remember the name now, and I really wasn’t keen. I think because it took quite a bit of work to rinse it all away. I know all balm cleansers aren’t like this though x
