Say hey to the latest palette to take beauty blogging world by storm, the Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette.
I have to admit, when this first came out, I was absolutely adamant I did not need yet another eyeshadow palette, and even though I am such a fan of the cult Naked palettes, I tried to waver off the hype and ignore it. I was actually sat in Nandos with Emily from British Beauty Addict and Heather from Porcelain Beauty, casually chomping on some sweet potato wedges, and earnestly said I did not need this palette, nope, nadda.
Sadly, I caved.
Actually, I am not sad at all. A smokey eye is a classic, timeless look that suits everyone of any age, race, colour or size and can be transcended to suit every occasion. Why on earth did I even hesitate? Just look at it, the palette is beautiful. I am a girl who usually wears quite natural make-up, one who rarely makes up her eyes, but yet I had so much fun putting together the look for this review. I forget how much of a difference dark, bold shadows make to my eyes. I actually love getting all “glammed up” and I really should do it more often.
I love the packaging, the “smoke” effect is stunning and really makes this palette stand out. I had so much fun photographing this palette, it looked amazing in the light by my window. This time there are 9 never before seen shades, and 3 exclusives from past palettes. As always, the eyeshadows themselves are buttery, highly pigmented and a dream to work with.  I swear as I get older my eyelids get oilier, so I always like to use the Urban Decay Eye Primer Potion underneath for the ultimate staying power. As for the brush, an exclusive to the palette, it is super soft and makes using this palette even easier – one end is a Tapered Crease, great for both packing on colour and precision blending, where as the Smoky Smudger brush is great for adding detail close to the lash line.
I think my favourite shades are the shimmery metallic ones, High, a cream shimmer, Radar, a metallic taupe, and Armor, a metallic silver. All of these shades contain micro glitter – how cool is that?

To create my smokey eye I first of all applied Password, a cool taupe matte shade, all over the lid as a base colour, blending through the crease. I then added Smoulder, a deep plum,
into the inner corner and outer corners, avoiding the centre of the
lid, always blending with the Tapered Crease to ensure I left no harsh
edges. I then added Dagger to the centre of the lid, before applying a touch of Slanted on top too. I softly blended these colours to the outer colours, so that everything had that smokey feel. To finish the look off I added Armour to the centre, close to the lash line. For the inner corners I added a little bit of High, just to brighten my eyes up.

I am really looking forward to playing more with this palette. I think it is a great addition to any make-up addict’s collection and as a professional make-up artist, this is definitely a staple for your kit.

Available to buy in stores and online for £38.00.

  • I’d love to get this, it looks so pretty! I don’t know if I can justify it though since I only seem to wear cooler tones/ silvery shades for evening wear and I already have a few. I’m not sure it would get enough use, as pretty as it is, Em x
