Make-up | Let’s Play Mascara Roulette

beauty blogger zoe newlove reviews her favourite mascaras including benefit roller lash, lancome hypnose volume a porter, bareminerals lash domination, loreal volume million lashes feline, urban decay perversion, too faced better than sex mascara

Mascara is a product that I have really grown to love recently, even though it’s the bit in my make-up routine I still really dislike
doing the most.  I can now appreciate what is and what is not a good
mascara. I used to have a very laid back, nonchalant attitude to mascara
and labelled them “all the same”. Ignorantly, I dismissed the fact that
each shape, brush type and formula, albeit similar in some cases, still
make each mascara different and unique.

I think when you find a really good mascara, excuse the pun it is a really eye opener.  Some days I would not bother putting mascara on at all, the lazy make-up artist in me winning the battle. Mascara, in the way brows frame the face, it really frames and defines your eyes, bringing them (& you) to life. Having a day where you look tired? Put on mascara. See? Magic.
Right now, I am swapping between six awesome mascaras, all of which have qualities that I always like to have when using the magic black wands: Volume, definition, separation and drama.
Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash, definitely one of the most exciting launches to come from Benefit so far this year. Out of all the mascaras featured here, this one probably gives the most natural finish – if you can call outstanding lashes natural. The brush is so unique, as it actually grips each individual hair and curls it – in the way you would curl a straight piece of ribbon, clever huh?
The latest additions to my collection are Lancome Hypnose Volume à Porter and L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes Feline. Two completely different price points, but both are totally necessary. Lancome Hypnose mascaras have never let me down and the new one is no different, giving me really full, voluminous lashes every time. The L’Oreal one, I think has a really unique brush – it’s arched! It feels really lightweight and you can have fun layering this one up without it going clumpy.
A heavier mascara in terms of the formula, but by far one of my favourite ever mascaras, Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara is for you if you want lots of drama, lots of volume, and don’t mind a little itty bit of clumping here and there.
bareMinerals Lash Domination, another wicked mascara if you
like really thick but separated lashes. This happens to be one of my friend’s
favourite mascaras as well, Laura Lou loves it – and she is fussy, trust me.

I think you can pretty much gather by now what I like a
mascara to do to my lashes, but just in case you need another option Urban Decay Perversion is ruddy fabulous too. One coat and you are ready to rock and roll… or you know, just read some more blog posts.

  • I love finding a new mascara that just changes everything. The high street has really come a long way, it’s great that we don’t have to send a fortune -espeically as I buy new ones so often! I really love Roller Lash and Hypnose, I might have to try out the Too Faced Better than Sex mascara, that sounds right up my street!

  • I truly have had such issues with finding good mascaras lately. Everything I try is disappointing. I definitely need to give some of these a go! The L’oreal one sounds awesome! (So does the price)
