It is no secret I am pale, I even earned myself the nickname Spooks once, Casper the Friendly Ghost was already taken. Think of the lightest foundation, M.A.C Cosmetics NC10 for instance, this shade my friends, is still too dark for my skin. Seeing as I can’t just jet off on an aeroplane to the Maldives (c’mon Universe) then I am best faking it till I make it. Today I present to you my stash of self tanning beauty products. There comes a time in a girl’s life when being transparent, just doesn’t cut it you know? Every now and then I like to treat my milky white legs to a bit of colour, even if it is streaky, at least I try!
First time applying Xen Tan Tranform Luxe Daily Self Tan, I got it so, so wrong. I needed to wear gloves to work just to hide the massacre. Second time, and onwards, I started to get it right. I love this stuff, the smell, the texture, it sure is my favourite of the bunch. I feel better about using this as it contains Green Tea, is Paraben Free and has a beautiful vanilla fragrance, not the classic dog biscuit smell. I also find, this holds the colour the longest. Applies just like a moisturiser, with no guide colour, and soaks in really quickly.
St Tropez Bronzing Lotion, is the only fake tan I will ever apply to my face (unless you guys can recommend an organic one). I just trust St. Tropez. It never blocks my pores, it does not feel greasy and definitely gives me a healthy, bronzed glow over that I’ve just been tangoed complexion. I can also highly recommend visiting a St. Tropez counter to book in for a spray tan. Last year I visited Debenhams in Liverpool and tried this service. I was in and out within 15 minutes and it was the best tan I have ever had. It is £20, and worth every penny.
NKD Skin Matte Wash off Instant Tan and One Night Tan by Model Co are the tans I reach for when a last minute night out comes up, or I have to attend an event. Instant tans are little heroes. I have used Model Co for years, especially this instant bronze mousse. It has a really nice fragrance, and out of all of these, makes my skin go the darkest. Usually, you cannot tell if I am wearing fake tan, I just look more alive than normal, but with Model Co, I look like I have been on holiday. The difference between these two? I found that NKD Skin comes off in the rain – not cool, where as Model Co, only comes off with soap and water, happy days.
Now, Cocoa Brown, is the newest brand I have had the pleasure of testing, and I particularly love the 1 Hour Tan Mousse. Normally, I will apply fake tan one day, and the next, shower it off. With this mousse, I only have to leave it one hour to develop and then I can step into the shower and gently wash the guide colour off. I tend to leave this on for the three hours, to develop a deep colour and it comes out perfect every time. I never streak with this one, and the guide colour is brilliant for those who, like me, are pretty rubbish at applying self tan. No horrible fragrance again, this one has the nicest scent out of all here.
Who do you turn your tanning mitts too? Have you got a favourite brand?

Xen Tan’s formula sounds really nice. I’m always scared to fake tan cause every time I do, you can almost guarantee I’ll miss a patch or give myself a lovely streak up my leg. haha.

  • I’ve been wanting to start fake tanning for a while now but am a bit scared of turning orange or patchy. The Cocoa Brown tan sounds lovely though, I’ve heard so many good things about it. x

St. Tropez is amazing! I just went to an event where they were doing St. Tropez bronzing for your face & neck and it worked amazingly.
