Lana Del Rey Inspired FOTD
Another Make-Up Tutorial post for you guys! Something a little different!
I have worked with Mel Clarke on a few different occasions, you may recognise her from Front Magazine. She came out to Mallorca this week to work with me and surprised me by telling me she wanted to have her hair like Lana Del Rey.
Before my excitement could kick in, I realised I did not have the right tools in my hair kit! Ideally I would have liked to use hot rollers but yet I am still to invest in a decent set. Thankfully, the lovely Laura Lou answered my cry for help on Twitter. She suggested I pin curled the hair after going through it with my curling wand!

Hair
I diagonally parted the hair and split it into sections. Two at the front and three sections at the back. One section at at time I used my curling wand to create a wave. After one piece was curled, I would then smooth it out and wrap it around two fingers, slowly rolling it towards the head – ready for it to be pinned in place. Once the entire head was done, I set it with hairspray and moved onto doing the make-up.

Eyes
The eyes are really what this look is about. I filled in the brows with M.A.C Eyebrow Pencil in Lingering. I then covered the entire lid, all the way up to the brow with M.A.C Paintpot in Soft Ochre. This colour is great because not only does it act as an eye primer, but it is the perfect shade to create a Lana Del Rey-esque canvas. You need a very light, yellow beige tone if you have not got this colour to hand.
Next I used my Jemma Kidd Smokey Eye kit and took the matte white and pressed it over the lid. Any matte white/eggshell colour will do. I then used M.A.C Cork (a golden brown) in the crease, going right the way into the inner corner and all along to the outer eye. I took a M.A.C 217 blending brush and gently blended this colour into the socket. I then went back to my Jemma Kidd Palette and took a white highlighter, any white/pearl highlighter will do, and applied this to the centre of the lid.
Onto the best bit, the Lana Del Rey flick! Ok, so I am a professional make-up artist, but even so doing eyeliner still causes me to panic. I am such a perfectionist and the risk of ruining my eyeshadow gives me sweaty palms. I used Illamasqua Fine Pencil in Eerie and went along the lash top lash line working it into the roots of the lashes. I did this along the lower lash line too. I then marked a dot at the edge of either eye, marking out where I wanted the end of the flick to finish. Using my Maybelline Drama Gel Eye liner in black and an Illamasqua Eye liner brush I went over my black pencil line to create this feline flick.
Top tip: Pull the eyelid taught from the side and drag the brush along the lid. If you make a mess grab a cotton bud and dip it in some moisturiser to neaten up any mistakes.
I finished off by adding a pair of Ardell Demi Wispies false lashes and lashings of Lancome Hypnose mascara.
Base
I used my Illasmasqua Satin Primer, followed by Jemma Kidd Light as Air foundation in Shade One. Mel has great skin, so the only concealing I needed to do was under the eyes, and for this I used Bourjois Healthy Mix concealer. I am loving using Illamasqua Cream Blusher in Zygomatic for contouring, it has a slight pink hue to it so gives interesting definition. I then dusted a little bit of Kiko Cosmetics Matte bronzer under the cheek bones and down the sides of the nose. I set the look with Illamasqua Translucent Setting Powder.
Lips
Last but not least the lips! To line the lips I used M.A.C Cosmetics Lip liner in In Synch. To fill in the lips I used By Terry Rouge Delectation in No 6 – a shade now discontinued but I would describe it as a peachy brown that just enhances a natural lip colour. I then applied on top a lipgloss by Nars in Striptease, a strong nude perfect for Lana Del Rey lips.
Once I had finished the make-up, I took out all of the hair pins and used a flat paddle brush to brush out the curls. I further smoothed the hair out with my hands and a TIGI Bedhead Smoothing cream and finished with hairspray.
